- Manifesting as paintings, drawings and photographic/ digital works, Hybrids, Glimpses & Traces is a recent project that emanates from two strands of inquiry. The first, draws on Freud's archaeology metaphor, which centres on the psychoanalytic process of extracting repressed material from the psyche. The second, uses my knowledge of and practice in energy work, specifically, Zen Shiatsu, Qigong and Chinese Medicine.
- Oils on canvas, board, aluminium and paper, as well as, prints on paper, these works range from large to small in size and emerge from a layered process of creation and destruction. They come from pockets inside a life in flux and are made up of glimpses captured as inscriptions. The paintings are a failed excercise in impermanence; a reaching for authenticity; born from a place of loss, absence or lack and motivated (as I believe all art intrinsically is) by Freud's Death Drive towards an originary place that exists between death and life.
